Research carried out by GLEN, the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network in the past found that some LGBT people had concerns about coming out or being out in the workplace for fear that their relationships with co-workers would change or that they would be excluded from informal networks. Yet research shows that having an inclusive culture where people can bring their whole selves to work and be open about who they are results in employees who perform at their best, bring energy, enthusiasm and creativity to their work.
Being an ally does not mean having all the answers and requires being open to what you do not know. To help companies understand and share good practices in this area Ibec, Eir Business and GLEN are hosting a Straight Ally’s event on February 22nd.
